Enterprise Cloud Backup Options 🛡️

For a self-hosted desktop application like NalamDesk, "Enterprise Standard" means Object Storage (S3-compatible). This is the industry standard for secure, scalable, and programmable backups.

Unlike Google Drive (which is a personal file host), these services are designed for application data, offering strict compliance (HIPAA/GDPR), encryption, and durability.

ProviderBest ForApprox CostEnterprise Features
AWS S3The Gold Standard$0.023/GB99.999999999% durability, massive compliance certifications (HIPAA, HITECH), region locking (e.g., keep data in Mumbai ap-south-1).
Backblaze B2Cost Efficiency$0.006/GBS3-compatible, extremely cheap, free egress (download) up to 3x, enterprise-grade security.
Azure BlobMicrosoft ShopsSimilar to AWSGreat if you already use the Microsoft ecosystem.
Cloudflare R2Zero Egress Fees$0.015/GBS3-compatible, no cost to download backups, edge-distributed.

Why S3-Compatible?

  1. Standard Protocol: If we build an "S3 Connector" for NalamDesk, it works with all of the above (AWS, B2, R2, MinIO).
  2. Security: You can create a specific "Bucket" with strict policies (e.g., "Append Only" for ransomware protection).
  3. No Vendor Lock-in: You can switch from AWS to Backblaze just by changing the endpoint URL in Settings.

Recommendation

For NalamDesk Enterprise, implementing an S3-Compatible Backup option is the best path forward. It allows users to choose their preferred provider (AWS for strict compliance, Backblaze for cost) while we maintain a single integration codebase.
